Writer's Digest Contest 2/5-23/15

Gazing at the smoking Christmas tree behind her second story window, I hastily dial 911, thinking, “March first -- Mom’s got her months mixed up again!”

(Bummer!  The photo won't display!)

{Shot from the lower left hand corner, a house's second story window, curtain, ceiling, parts of the corner wall, an evergreen tree can be seen.  From squarely in front, I imagine the tree would be perfectly centered.  A dark smudge Dark siding stretches off the edge of the photo to the left.]

Prompt: Write the opening sentence (25 words or fewer) to a story based on the photo to the left.

Remember: You can be funny, poignant, witty, etc.; it is, after all, your story.

Paste your story into the form below or email your submission directly to within the body of your email (no attachments please). Don’t forget your name and mailing address. One entry per person per contest.

Unfortunately, we cannot respond to every entry we receive, due to volume. No confirmation emails will be sent out to confirm receipt of submission. But be assured all submissions received before entry deadline are considered carefully.
