Mother has a unique mind. She comes up with such phrasing that we are all reduced to giggles. Memorable. Today, she was telling me about leaving for church in a hurry, and forgetting the pan she'd cooked the oatmeal in. Some had stuck to the bottom of the pan, so she'd poured in some water and put it on low.
George, who had not gone to church, kept hearing things. Finally, he went into the kitchen when he also began to SMELL something. There he found the red light on, and a ruined pan. So, as mother was telling the story, she popped out with, "George kept hearing this smell."
Isn't that just PERFECT to describe the scene?
