Ah, The Eyre Affair. Quite enjoyable. In a discussion with some English teachers (while we were waiting to be called for Jury duty), I grouped that book in with some others as a new genre: "the form as story", to wit, novels about the nature of novels.
Others I label there: Book: A Novel by Robert Grudin, If On A Winter's Night A Traveller by the fascinating Italo Calvino, and Mark Dunn's Ella Minnow Peel, which is probably more reminiscent of Norton Juster's The Phantom Tollbooth than like the others.
