Jess came today and said Raven WAS gaining weight. I guess I'm just too close to it to see it. I know he's feeling better. He didn't want to let Jess get out the gate unaided. I had to laugh; I have so many ways of outwitting him, but Jess did not plan ahead, and I went down to rescue him. When I got to the bottom of the drive, he'd pulled over and was waiting. To catch Raven for me.
He looked puzzled up the hill. Finally, he said, "Where's Raven?"
"I locked him behind the gate."
The double gate was wide open, but if Raven goes on one side or the other, the gates are long enough to push him forward and lock them behind him, making a little pen. I don't think Jess had ever done that, or seen it done. He only thought of closing the two gates together... Of course, I have to go out every day, and in this heat, I don't want to chase a horse. He got past me once when he was over in the west pasture eating grass, and I went in with groceries and hit the john before coming back to get the gate... TOO LONG.
