I got sidetracked going to vote, and still had no trouble hitting goal.

(Gory details: my forever polling place is a six mile jaunt from here. I go in around 1 -- the street is EMPTY. Now, true, I live in the middle of nowhere, but not even a worker's car?

Ah, there's something on the door. I crawl out. Sure enough, it's a sign... a sign that says our polling place is the Seymour Community Center... 13 miles from home.

I'd come in with the pick-up, which has a broken gas gage, so I wanted to be sure the tank was full for winter while prices were under $2 a gallon... Not the vehicle I'd have chosen if I'd known I was going to tour the entire county... (I live less than two miles from the northern boundary; Seymour is five miles north of the Missouri state line...

Less than $5.00 fit in the tank. It WAS already full. The clerk asked me if the pump was working okay...

After I'd tanked up, I bought fast food that is NOT going to help me lose weight, and 2% milk (ditto) as the skim was gone.

As I went I went in to vote, I regretted that I had not grabbed the cooler and prayed with the combined polling, there would not be a line.

Voting was like old home week. No line, even with the two cities combined, but another retired teacher was working the sign-in booth, three neighbors showed up [we should have car pooled, but they, like me, had been unaware of the change in locations] and several former students, so it was not a fast trip. The milk was sitting on the front seat, in the sun.

Since I "voted" not to take the truck a 50 mile round trip to get groceries, etc, I have to go in Thursday to return library books. At least the car, which still has a 3/4 tank of $3.26 gas in its tank, will be more comfy. I've gotten out of the habit of downshifting and clutching. Spoiled rotten!

Vocabulary Wonders Via NANO

Be there or be quadrilateral.
    -- Minaarchangel, in the "RE: Quad-Cities" thread, Wed, November 5, 2008 8:55 a.m.

I howled when I read that line, even though it didn't rhyme any more! I immediately thought of some biting sarcasm my MC might be able to lay on some unsuspecting OC (other character), "Feeling a tad quadrilateral today?" after some social faux pas. Or maybe (more likely, even) the OC would lay it on my MC... [sound of plot bunnies creaking the old dearly departed hampster's wheel]

Since it was written as part of National Novel Writing Month, when we are repeatedly told to TURN OFF our internal editors, I corrected the spelling on quadrillateral to protect the unnamed, as people in that area and attending the write-in's would know who Minaarchangel is in real life. Would this mythic person be likely to be reading my journal?

Not if they stopped at my username, which is NOT the handle I use in this journal, but a sobriquet a friend suggested to be to see if they really had more fun... But, not impossible -- in the author profile, I give links to my "real" journal and web site, which could lead them here.
