A Writer Who Understands Real Life

In the "Hot Romance" department, in This Day Forward, Elizabeth Morris has her character's romantic moment go up in smoke. On page 46, she writes:

Fortunately, reason and instinct didn't both desert her at the same time; a pungent warning of imminent disaster caused her to break the embrace.

"The pizza is burning!" she gasped.

"So am I."

"Yeah, but you won't set off the smoke detector," she quipped breathlessly, struggling to a sitting position.
