On Risk -- Terry Piper

It is neither necessary nor desirable to create a risk-free environment. What is important is to create an environment in which one feels safe enough to take chances in order to optimize his/her learning. It is essential to create conditions that say to children it is all right to make mistakes, and that it is more important for everyone, including the teacher, to try than to be correct.
