Defining Semantics Precisely


When nit pickers get together and quibble over the shades of meaning of various words, most of us just turn a deaf ear and say, "ah, synonyms."

Thus, vision and sight are synonyms, until one puts them into use:
Telling a woman she's a vision is far different from telling her she's a sight...

Or consider the old meanings of merry and gay then think about Robin Hood's merry men...
